Insider tip: At the end of the Malecón is Puerto Vallarta's main square, Plaza de Armas. Near the square is the bell tower of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, topped by angels holding aloft a wrought-iron crown--an enormous replica of the one worn by Carlota, empress of Mexico from 1864 to 1867.
